For nearly a decade an area of roughly 40,000 square metres on Le Thi Rieng street in Thoi An ward in the outlying District 12 has been used in order to grow flowers to serve the extra demand around Tet.

The flower village which is located in the northwest of downtown area of Ho Chi Minh City is now entering its busiest time of the year.

Chrysanthemum, marigold, crested chicken, and sunflowers are the main flowers which are grown here.

Local people must work hard as a means of ensuring the flower’s fast growth and flowering in time for Tet.

Pots filled with daisies are carefully tended to so they can be sold at the Tet market. To prepare for the Lunar New Year festival, gardens have created extra jobs for many local people, who typically earn between VND150,000 and VND200,000 daily.

According to the gardeners working at the village, due to higher costs compared to previous years, Tet flower prices will increase by about 10%.

Garden owners say that the Tet atmosphere usually bustles around 10 days before the start of the Lunar New Year.

The village supplies flowers to Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces during Tet. Visitors to the village can enjoy a variety of colourful flowers, meticulously manipulated in order to ensure they will bloom beautifully just in time for Tet.
