Hanoi opens public library renovated with S.Korea funds
The Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports inaugurated the renovated Hanoi Library on Tuesday.
The South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism financed the public library renovation project at Hanoi Library.
The project was aimed at improving the quality of amenities at Hanoi Library, moving toward building a reading-culture space.
The renovated public library will advance cultural discussions and exchange, spread knowledge, and enhance the mental health of Hanoi readers.
The first phase of the project, from November to December last year, focused on designing and decorating the space of the library’s first floor.
The second and third floors of the library had their reading space decorated and refurbished from December 2022 to April this year.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the refurbished library, vice-chairwoman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Thu Ha said that the public library renovation project backed by South Korea is one of many cultural activities helping solidify the Vietnam-South Korea friendship.
The activity also beefed up the two nations’ solidarity and improved culture and library management in Vietnam.

Hanoi Library will become a creative and innovative space for Hanoi’s talent, Ha said, adding that the library will act as a venue of innovation promotion activities to drive the cultural growth.
After being converted from a traditional library into a modern one, Hanoi Library will meet the needs of readers and serve global reading trends.
The leader of Vietnam’s capital city also expressed her gratitude to the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the South Korean government, and the South Korean ambassador to Vietnam.
She expected that cooperation activities in various fields, especially culture, will cement the two countries’ friendship and contribute to boosting their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Vietnam and South Korea upgraded their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, which is the highest level in Vietnam’s international relations, in December last year.
At the event, South Korean Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Chun Byeong Geuk sent his congratulations to the launch of the renovated public library, which is a cultural complex for 8.3 million Hanoi residents.
The South Korean ministry has backed many small-scale library rehabilitation projects overseas since 2007, said Chun.
Starting from 2020, the South Korean government expanded its program to public libraries abroad, and selected Vietnam as the first nation to conduct the expansion project.
The South Korean representative expected the renovated Hanoi Library to become Vietnam’s leading culture, information, and knowledge hub.
