A “Book Garden” Has Been Established at the Zoo in Downtown Ho Chi Minh City

The Book Garden nestles amid ancient trees and is situated beside a lotus lake with a Bird Island, providing a tranquil and environmentally friendly atmosphere for young readers.

The facility is equipped with 1,000 children’s books, carefully selected and generously donated by Tre Publishing House.

It also offers a number of books featuring stories about animals at the zoo. These books will not only provide children with an understanding of the origin and characteristics of the animals they see at the zoo, but also enrich their knowledge with interesting stories.

Huynh Thu Thao, the Chairwoman of the Board of the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens Limited Company, which operates the zoo, said at the opening ceremony of the ‘Book Garden’ that the explosion of information and technology had both positive and negative aspects. She emphasized that it was important to be aware of both the advantages and disadvantages in order to use this technology in the most effective manner.

One of the drawbacks of the digital age is that it has resulted in a decrease in reading culture, she explained.

Reading is an incredibly relaxing and rewarding activity that can help us accumulate knowledge, expand our horizons, and grow our mindsets. Unfortunately, many people have lost interest in reading books in recent years. With the abundance of digital media available to us, it can be hard to find the time and motivation to pick up a book. However, reading is still a valuable and enjoyable activity that can have a lasting impact on our lives.

Therefore, this reading space is expected to help people, especially kids, develop and maintain a regular reading habit, the board chairwoman added.

According to Phan Thi Thu Ha, the director at Tre Publishing House, it would be beneficial to cultivate reading habits from an early age. By doing so, young children can gain knowledge, explore new topics, and develop their language skills. Additionally, reading can serve as a form of entertainment and provide an opportunity for personal growth.

Good books and a comfortable reading space can be powerful catalysts for encouraging children to read more, according to Ha.

Ha expressed her hope that the “book garden” will provide a rest stop and reading space where children can gain more knowledge about nature.
