. Vietnam to Compete in International Football Friendly Match Against Syria Next Month

The Vietnamese national football team, currently ranked 95th in the FIFA world ranking, is set to host Syria, who hold the 90th position, at Thien Truong Stadium in northern Nam Dinh Province on June 20. This match is seen as a valuable opportunity for Vietnam to enhance their skills, considering Syria’s slightly higher global ranking. Furthermore, the presence of esteemed coach Hector Cuper, who is leading the Syrian team, adds to the significance of the occasion. Cuper, a seasoned 65-year-old coach, previously managed well-known European football clubs such as Valencia, Inter Milan, Real Betis, and Parma. Before joining the Syrian national team, he had coaching stints with national teams like Egypt, Uzbekistan, and Congo.

Prior to the Syria match, Vietnam will also be playing Hong Kong on June 15 in another international friendly game, marking their first match under new head coach Philippe Troussier since his appointment in February. This game will take place at Lach Tray Stadium in northern Hai Phong City. To prepare for the June games, the Vietnamese national football team players are scheduled to regroup on June 7.

In addition to the June friendlies, the VFF (Vietnam Football Federation) has announced that Vietnam will participate in two more international friendly matches in September and October this year. These matches will be followed by the 2026 World Cup and 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, which will take place on November 13 and 21, respectively. The opponents for these matches will be determined through a draw in July.
