First Vietnamese Cyclist Ever Qualifies for Olympics

Her successful qualification can be attributed to the gold medal she won in the women’s event of the 2023 Asian Road and Para Cycling Championships in Thailand on Monday. She triumphed over a 109-kilometer racecourse, showcasing her determination and skill.

During Monday’s event, Nguyen Thi Thi, Nguyen Thi Thu Mai, and Tran Thi Thuy Trang consistently supported her, which greatly helped her integrate into the leading peloton.

She impressively outperformed her formidable competitors, including Sun Jiajun from China and Jutatip Maneephan from Thailand, to secure the championship title.

This talented individual showcased her superior skills and abilities, surpassing even the most formidable opponents such as Sun Jiajun from China and Jutatip Maneephan from Thailand. With great determination and a relentless drive for success, she emerged as the undisputed champion and claimed the coveted championship title.

As stated by Huynh Van Chanh, the head coach of the Vietnamese cycling team, this accomplishment enabled That to participate in the Paris Olympics as the current Asian champion.

However, he stressed that this specific slot is reserved for athletes from countries that do not qualify for the Olympics based on their rankings in the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) or the World Championships.

The Vietnamese women’s cycling team has received unofficial confirmation that they have secured one official spot to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Vietnam Cycling Federation (VCF) is still awaiting an official response from the UCI, but international referees from UCI who have been overseeing the Asian tournaments have informally confirmed the news. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, the general secretary of the VCF, provided this information to the Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper on Tuesday.

Last year, That athlete won the prestigious gold medal in the highly competitive women’s elite 111-kilometer road race at the esteemed 2022 Asian Road and Para Cycling Championships held in the beautiful country of Tajikistan.

The 2023 Asian Road and Para Cycling Championships were held in Rayong, Thailand from June 7 to 13.
