The cultural, sporting, and tourism sectors in Vietnam have had an eventful year, and it’s time to recognize the highlights. Experts, journalists, and locals cast their votes, both in person and online from December 5 to 7, to select the top 10 events that define the past year.
From the list of selected events, five cultural events stood out. Firstly, the Communist Party of Vietnam celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Outline of Vietnamese Culture, a momentous occasion that solidified the country’s cultural identity. Secondly, 78 exemplary cultural figures from all over the nation were honored in a special event. Thirdly, the prestigious title of world natural heritage was bestowed upon the Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Archipelago. This recognition emphasized the outstanding natural beauty of the region. Fourthly, ethnic groups with populations of fewer than 10,000 each came together in a cultural festival that celebrated their unique traditions and heritage. Lastly, Vietnam was elected to the World Heritage Committee for the term of 2023 – 2027, showcasing the country’s commitment to preserving and promoting its cultural treasures.
In terms of sports, Vietnam made a mark on the international stage. The country’s dominance was evident at SEA Games 32 held in Cambodia, where Vietnam emerged as the champion. Additionally, the women’s national football team represented Vietnam in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, gaining recognition for their exceptional skills and talent. Moreover, Vietnam claimed its first-ever gold medal in shooting at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, further solidifying its position in the sporting world.
Tourism in Vietnam also experienced notable advancements. The country implemented electronic visas for citizens of all countries and territories, making it easier for tourists to visit. Furthermore, temporary residence for 13 visa-exempt countries was extended to 45 days, providing visitors with more time to explore Vietnam’s beauty. The efforts in the tourism sector did not go unnoticed, as Vietnam received multiple awards from the World Tourism Organization. Among these honors, Vietnam was recognized as a Top World Heritage Destination for the fourth time and voted as a Top Travel Destination in Asia for the fifth time, further establishing its appeal as a tourist hotspot.
